Writing an Art Critique

In class you selected an image (postcard) of an art piece that you were to write an Art Critique about.  You also received a worksheet for your rough work to use in class - an extra copy of this is posted below.  After you have written you reflection ideas and done a bit of research on your rough worksheet, please type your finished Art Critique and submit using turnitin.com.  You must register and upload your critique by the due date.  Instructions are posted below on this page.  Please hand in the rough copy.


Art Critique due: Fri., Dec. 9, 2016

Art Critique Guidelines:

  • The critique should have 4 paragraphs with the following subtitles: Description, Analysis, Interpretation, Judgement
  • Type your Art Critique using 12 pt. font (1.5 line spacing)
  • DO NOT use fancy fonts!
  • Maximum margins: 1"
  • include a photo of the art piece you critiqued in your paper
  • Include embedded citation (MLA format) for ANY information you have included that is not your own opinion & quotes
  • Include a "Works Cited" list (MLA format)

How it will be marked:

Communication - 20 marks
Each paragraph is marked for appropriate quality & content out of a mark of 5.
Knowledge - 5 marks
Proper format & citations included.
