OUTLINE OF THE ART EXAM:

PART A: SLIDE IDENTIFICATION (Knowledge - 20 marks)
You will be shown 20 slides from our slide list this year.  You will be asked to identify 2 pieces of information for each - Artist, Title, Medium, Movement (date not required).  Each item is worth 1/2 mark.
HOW TO STUDY: Go on Quizlet and test your knowledge (link: https://quizlet.com/_1xfb32)

PART B: APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW (Application - 20 marks)
You will be shown 4 slides that you have not seen, but are from the art movements we have studied this year.  For each, you will be asked to identify the movement (for 1 mark) and provide 2 fully developed reasons (2 marks each) to justify your answer.
HOW TO STUDY: Review the common characteristics for each movement (see Art History page). Test yourself by finding examples of those characteristics from our slide list.

PART C: MULTIPLE CHOICE / MATCHING (Thinking - 20 marks)
All questions in this section will be completed on scantron.
Multiple Choice - You will be given 20 multiple choice questions about art movements and art history terminology that we have studied this year.
HOW TO STUDY: Review the common characteristics for each movement and key terms from your notes (see Art History page).

Matching - You will be given terms and definitions (in sets of 5) related to studio units we have completed this semester: oil painting process, silkscreening process, abstract painting process, different types of sculpture (theory).
HOW TO STUDY: Review handouts provided in class.

PART D: ESSAY QUESTION (Communication - 20 marks)
There will be 3 options for your essay question. You will be expected to choose and answer 1 question in the form of a five paragraph essay: introduction & thesis, three body paragraphs (with art pieces to support as examples), and conclusion.
HOW TO STUDY: Review your Art History notes and look for common ideas / themes (see Art History page).

PART E: DRAWING TASK (Application - 20 marks)
You will be given a drawing task in which you are asked to design something for a specific purpose / market.  Use your creativity, knowledge of composition, and resources provided to complete this task within the given time frame.
HOW TO PREPARE: This particular section cannot be studied for as it is a more practical application of your knowledge. Be familiar with Elements and Principles of Design and Burridge's Compositional Strategies to help you generate a composition quickly.
