COURSE SYLLABUS 2016 The following themes have been chosen to be explored throughout the semester: (1) place, (2) human form, (3) decay/weathered beauty, and (4) elements of nature. February 18 - Theme #1 (Place) Research due 23 - Mid-Critique #1 March 10 - Art Piece #1 Due Date (MARCH BREAK - March 14-18) (GOOD FRIDAY - March 25) (EASTER MONDAY - March 28) 30 - Theme #2 (Human Form) Research due 31 - OSSLT (WORK FROM HOME!) April 4 - Mid-Critique #2 12 - Art Piece #2 Due Date (MIDTERM - April 15) 19 - Theme #3 (Decay) Research due May 3 - Mid-Critique #3 12 - Art Piece #3 Due Date 19 - Theme #4 (Elements of Nature) Research due 26 - FIELD TRIP! (Alton Mill Art Centre) 31 - Mid-Critique #4 June 7 - Art Piece #4 Due Date 8-17 - CPT preparation time 13 - hand in "Skill Building" for marks (EXAM WEEK: June 20-24) 21 - Culminating Presentation Day (Time: TBD) |
ONCE A WEEK - SKILL BUILDING:
In this course, you will select your 2 best "skill-building" drawings per month to be submitted for evaluation (8 in total). FEBRUARY - Practicing Still Life 1. pen & ink, 2. value study, 3. contour, 4. choice of approach MARCH - Drawing the Human Form 1. gesture, 2. contour, 3. blind contour, 4. choice of approach APRIL / MAY - Using Colour 1. colour reference sheets, 2. experiment with new colour schemes (mini canvas), 3. mix any ten colours challenge, 4. paint a landscape (mixing greens successfully) JUNE - submit for evaluation (June 13th) WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS:
