Grade 10 Art (Experienced) Exam Preparation:

Exam Date: Monday, January 27, 2020

Time: Be in class by 8:27 am - paint palette collection & studying / question period (30 minutes).
Exam writing 9-10:30 am (1 hour, 30 minutes). Extra time NOT permitted unless you have an IEP.

Location: room 201


Exam Weighting: 15%
Knowledge - 20 marks (20%), Thinking - 20 marks (20%), Communication - 20 marks (20%), Application 40 marks (40%)

EXAM FORMAT:

Part A - SLIDE IDENTIFICATION (Knowledge-15 marks) (approx. 15 mins)
You will be shown 15 slides from our Slide List - Part 1 ONLY (slides #1-33).  Be prepared to provide credit line information for any of these pieces: artist's name, title, medium, art period. You will get 1/2 mark per piece of information. NO DATES!

NOTE: only artist's last name is required, if artist is not provided on your slide list it is "unknown," medium is NOT asked for buildings.


Part B - MEDIEVAL DIAGRAMS (Knowledge - 5 marks, Thinking - 20 marks) (approx. 15 mins)
For each of the following diagrams (all from medieval art handouts), use the wordbank provided to properly label the Medieval Architectural features and plans that we have studied in this course. (½ mark per term)
(Wordbank of Medieval Architectural terms will be provided)

Part C - APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW (Application - 10 marks) (approx. 10 mins)
​You will be shown 2 slides of art pieces we have not studied specifically.  For each slide, identify what art period you think the piece is from and provide 2 supporting reasons (in full sentences). 
(Wordbank of Art Periods will be provided)


Part D - WHO IS THE ARTIST? (Communication - 20 marks) (approx. 15 mins)
You will be shown 4 slides of art pieces that we have looked at in our Slide List - Part 2 (Artist's Overview).  For each, you will be asked to identify which artist created the piece AND to provide an explanation of 2 supporting reasons explaining HOW you know it is their work based on characteristics of their art (see handouts provided in class).
(Wordbank of Artists Names will be provided)

Part E - STUDIO EXPERIENCE (Application - 20 marks) (approx. 10 mins)
Using scantron, you will match terms / concepts based on your studio experiences this year...
  • 1st half: Match images provided with the best Burridge's Compositional design with the picture - 2 sets of 5 images / terms.
  • 2nd half: Match the Watercolour and Reduction Printing terms / processes - 10 sentences.

Part F - DRAW AN ISLAMIC DESIGN (Application - 10 marks) (approx. 15 mins)
You will be asked to draw and colour (using pencil crayons or markers) an Islamic Design based on either the 5 overlapping circles OR the 7 overlapping circles configuration - be sure to study both.  There will be some element of choice for your design.  

NOTE: Pencil crayons will be available in class, however please bring your own for convenience OR if you are writing in an alternate location.
